Features

McAffee LiveSafe is easily installed on Win 7 / 8 / 10 / XP / Vista, Mac, Android, and iOS, and works in the background, updating automatically when needed and scanning for potential threats online and already installed on your computer.

Real-Time Protection and Updates

When you install new software or download new files, McAfee will automatically scan them and block them if they contain any malware. What makes McAfee LiveSafe unique is its “Real-Time Scanning” feature which scans files already installed on your computer. As soon as you or your device access a file, McAfee LiveSafe will scan it to ensure maximum security. Operating systems and various apps access files on an ongoing basis without your knowledge, allowing McAfee LiveSafe to spot threats that may be “hiding” in the background attempting to steal your personal data.

WEB AND EMAIL PROTECTION

McAfee LiveSafe has a number of features that protect your files and personal information when using the internet.

• Firewall – A firewall is set in place to protect your computer against hackers by monitoring all of the information received and sent by your device.
• Spam Filter – The “Anti-Spam” function filters junk mail in your email and blocks any possible phishing attacks.
• Site Advisor – This features provides you with information on websites before you visit them, informing you of which sites are safe and which aren’t.
• Shredder – The “Shredder” permanently deletes files that contain sensitive information. The user chooses which files to delete in the user interface, including files in the Recycle Bin, Temporary Internet Files, and in any custom folder on their device.
• Vulnerability Scanner – Installing software updates and patches released by your operating system and the apps you use is very important to ensure no security breaches are left open. LiveSafe searches and installs the latest software updates for your operating system and apps automatically.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS

The “QuickClean” feature scans your device for any unnecessary and outdated files and allows you to remove them to improve your device’s performance.
McAfee LiveSafe includes many additional features, from Parental Control to a “Threat Map” which allows you to view active threats in your region and around the world.

Usability - Antivirus reviews at Top 5 Antivirus Software

Usability

Once installed, McAfee LiveSafe is already configured to provide you with complete protection. Additional features which need your input, like Parental Control, are easy to understand and manage and don’t require any technical knowledge. The default view of the user interface provides you with clear information on the last scan and four main buttons with the status of your current subscription plan, whether your software is updated or not, web and email protection, and virus and spyware protection. Two additional menus are available on the right side. The first includes Data Protection, PC and Home Network Tools, and Parental Controls, and the second is a navigation menu showing you all of the features in one place and a help button for support.
While some of the more advanced features may seem complicated, LiveSafe provides complete security from the moment it is installed without any required intervention on the user’s side.

Been hacked twice with mcafee protection. To restore my computer, Mcafee wants $129 for a one time fix or $179 for one year. I am paid up on my yearly subscription and it did NOT protect my computer against hackers 2 times. Screw Mcafee

When I am looking at the list of different products the prices are marked through and it says $19.95 or $19.99 and when I get into the reviews the price is always $79.00 or up. Why are the $19.95 prices shown? Is that just a tease?

Which antivirus would you recommend to clean my laptop that MIGHT already have a virus? Only option I’m looking at is wiping my laptop back to factory status and start all over. Don’t really want to because I have games but I guess I can save them to my thumb drive.

      Hi Rishia,
Thanks for your question. Since you are not 100% sure that you have a virus, it is important to install antivirus software that will scan your computer for any virus or malware. Some great options for antivirus software include Kaspersky, Bitdefender,
McAfee, and Trend Micro. If you are unable to install the software because of the virus, download it to another computer then transfer it via a USB drive. This article can provide detailed instructions on how to remove a virus.
      Good luck,
      Alex

      Hi Charles,

Congratulations on the new computer. I don’t think you’ll need most of those programs on a brand new system, besides Defender.
If you plan on paying for an antivirus program, such as McAfee (advisable), then I’d suggest that you download a paid version from the website rather than upgrading the one that came with your laptop.
There’s a nice holiday discount if you subscribe via Top 5. Click here for more details.

Area there ANY antivirus software companies that are based in the USA??? I hate using a credit card when the company is based in Europe. The last antivirus that I purchased had absolutely no way to cancel their services so I had my credit card company decline payment. I don’t want to deal with that again!!!!

I got McAfee livesafe package last year and was very disappointed with it. It did not protect my computer from viscous malware and I had to go and spend money on Malwarebytes. Had no trouble after that

when were the latest active threats discovered and updates for this virus protection??

    • Alex

      Hi Marco,

McAfee’s malware database is updated every few hours and in independent tests it has performed well in virus identification and capture, including zero-day (previously unseen) threats.

I just bought a new hp laptop with windows10. it came with the 30 day trial version of your product. the vendor is also selling your system mechanic. I have been using viper for some time now, and as time goes by, it has become an ISSUE more than once, with less support than I care to deal with any longer. I became infected with a ransomeware called “ICE VIRUS”, and threat track said they could do nothing about it. costing me a tidy sum to get it removed, and things to start working again. my question is; I am definitely going with your product, I just don’t know which one to buy. I am just a regular user, shopping, banking, browsing, and downloading some music now & then. no one else uses my computer, and I don’t do any social sites.what do I need ?

      Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear you got hit by ransomware, it can be a sticky situation.
I’d recommend you go for the Internet Security package for the best combination of value and features. You get excellent anti-malware, dangerous download protection, and much more besides. You can get started here.

    Hi Norma,

It sounds like you were lucky to avoid a scam with that 800-number.
I can’t comment on Malwarebyte.com, as it’s not a brand I’ve had much experience with. The reason your problem wasn’t detected by McAfee is likely because it was a free pre-installed version, which doesn’t offer the same protection as the paid version.

You can find out more about the differences between free and paid antivirus software in this article.

    Hope that helps.

I bought a Costco laptop 3 mo. ago and McAfee was already installed. Two days ago I went open my Comcast email and was alerted with a window that my pc was at risk and to call this 800#. I did…1st, no answer, second a foreign voice that said it would cost me $125 to get rid of the problem (I hung up). Had MacAfee do a scan. Left turned off overnite and found the same alert the next day, also continued to be bombarded by popup ads any time I accessed email. I called Costco Concierge and a gal called Jackie had me download a malwarebyte.com software and did a trial use. It scanned and deleted 279 files that were a problem (I guess). I no longer have a problem. Why didn’t McAfee catch the problem on my scan request?

I used McAfee Total Protection 2015 (expired), which protected 3 pcs. It seems the present offer has the same designation, but offers “devices,” not “pcs.” I want to purchase protection for 3 pcs, not needing protection for devices such as I Phones, etc. Cost is a factor as I’m disabled and funds are limited. Help?

      Hi Paul,

Nothing to worry about! The offer above will provide protection for three PCs.

Great review and completely true! McAfee has a great products. My last computer was basically useless after it got infected with a virus, and so I didn’t want to risk it with my new one. I highly recommend McAfee. Their products have thorough protection.
